1 Diagnostic Value of C-Reactive Protein for Predicting Activity Level of Crohn’s Disease

2 Figure 1 Measures of the VHI and the CDAI in a subgroup of 52 patients. VHI and CDAI were correlated (r = 0.708; P = .0001). Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology 2006 4, DOI: ( /j.cgh ) Copyright © 2006 American Gastroenterological Association Terms and Conditions

3 Figure 2 Evolution of CRP and VHI levels during treatment of an acute CD phase in a sample of 10 patients with active CD (ileocolonic, n = 5; colonic, n = 4; small bowel CD, n = 1). After beginning of intravenous methyl-prednisolone (arrow), CRP quickly diminished. After 7 days, CRP mean was less than 2 × N; CRP returned to normal level (≤N) in 6 patients, whereas VHI mean was still markedly above the threshold of 150; no patient had a VHI <150. Data are expressed as mean ± standard error of the mean. 4 Figure 3 ROC curve shows the relationship between sensitivity and 1-specificity in determining the predictive value of CRP for active CD, that is, a VHI ≥150. The area under the ROC curve (ROC AUC) was large: ROC AUC150 = (95% CI, 0.783–0.906; P = .0001).
