One place influenced by the U.S is Hawaii. The U.S President Harrison promoted a treaty to annex Hawaii in The treaty was declined until 1898 when the U.S started the Spanish-American war. On July 21, 1898, Hawaii was officially Annexed to the U.S

Why U.S did this The U.S main reason of annexing Hawaii was due to the Spanish-American war that broke out in The U.S was in need of a mid-pacific fuel supplier and Hawaii was perfect for that. On July 21, 1898, Congress passed the treaty to officially annex Hawaii.

Is the U.S helping or harming?
The U.S harmed Hawaii by annexing them because they messed up their government system. Before Hawaii was annexed they were controlled by a monarchy, ruled by Queen Lili’oukalani. After the annexation an armed revolt took place to try to stop the annexation. Leading to Queen Lili’oukalani being jailed

Is the U.S helping or harming? (continued)
Between September 11 and October 2, two groups gathered signatures for petitions at public meetings in hoping the U.S will change their minds. Of the ,000 people living in Hawaii at the time, 21,269 people signed the petitions to stop the annexation.

Counter Argument The U.S did help Hawaii in a way. By annexing Hawaii, their land could have been part of the United States making it a state with its own laws. This can boost their economy and strength which is useful for trade and business. Because Hawaii is a state, they don’t have to worry about keeping a good government.
7
Counter Argument (continued)
With the statehood of Hawaii many citizens were part of a country unlike the time when the Hawaiian government was overthrown and was under annexation. The citizens demanded state- hood to be officially part of the United States.
