WHAT DOES LEARNING STYLE MEAN?

Guide to how learners learn best Implications for educators as well, as we tend to teach the way we ourselves learn best. Visual preference=maps, charts, flow charts rather than text format Auditory= information received through language (heard or spoken) Read/write=information in text format Kinesthetic=Concrete, experience-based, tactile. Good idea to try and include as many of these as possible in your teaching strategies. Use Maggie/BLS as an example

LEARNING STYLE INSTRUMENTS
Look for: Validity/reliability Domains measured Validates what learner perceives vs what educator perceives One tool to help develop an individualized orientation Soloman/Felder cites articles that have been written on their instrument Not intended to diagnose learning style Use observation and interviews in addition to Learning Style instrument as part of your initial assessment of the person.
