Fine wire is made predominantly of steel. Wire is manufactured by being pulled by tapered apertures. When dragging wire mainly hot or cold rolled steel is used as the base material. During the wire drawing process dust arises, which must be removed by vacuum extraction. The dust are:
-  Scale -  Grinding dust -  Draw soap (Calcium stearate and Natrium stearate)
Since it may be possible that the soap dusts is flammable, the suction must be designed in accordance with ATEX guidelines to minimize the explosion risk.
Wire is drawn through a draw plate and tapers.

Typical dry wire drawing machine (opened) with several draw plates, where the wire is pulled through each to the next degree. At the draw plates arising dust has to be extracted. Depending on the design, there are machines that have already been equipped with connecting pieces for suction systems at the draw plates

As additional sales option for OEM suppliers it is possible to offer stationary
vacuum extraction or dedusting systems which can be connected to
the machine suction pieces directly in order to extract the scale dust.
