2 Director’s Message It gives me immense pleasure in welcoming new entrants and staff members to the most sought after institute in the region of Haryana. The institute has a standing of ten years and in these ten years it has established itself as one of the best colleges in Delhi/NCR. The excellent staff, modern infrastructure, spacious classrooms, well equipped labs and library, and various cultural activities have made the environment feasible for the budding professionals to achieve their dreams. Management has very effectively and diligently planned and executed policies to elevate the institute to the status of Number one engineering college in the state within the shortest possible time. The institute aims at improving the technical skills of freshmen, as the first year of B.tech is the stepping stone for every new entrant. I wish them all the luck coming their way.

Engineers play the most vital role in nation building by creating updated inventions to make human life comfortable and better. I welcome budding engineers to this excellent campus of PIET. The dedicated, qualified and experienced team of the department of Applied Sciences and Humanities is ready to provide a complete package of educational services to new entrants. The core values of the department help the students to develop their overall personality and make them worthy technocrat to compete and work at global level. I am certain that our students will prove to be an individual asset to institute and any organization. Yes PIET.

4 Meet the Editorial Team
The Editorial Team of “Aadhar” is glad to bring forth the e-newsletter for the month of August. The newsletter serves as a platform to highlight the academic and cultural segments of PIET every month. It is an initiative by our department (ASH) which aims at exhibiting the contributions made by each faculty member in imparting their knowledge and skills, and also inculcating them into new students coming to the institute to carve a niche for themselves

5 Bridge Class Program The department conducted a Bridge Classes Program before the commencement of the session 2016, i.e., in the month of July. It was organized to remove the difficulties that are faced by budding engineers. The classes also helped a lot to the young learners to sail through the main stream courses easily. The subjects covered under these classes were Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Communication Skills, Aptitude, Reasoning, Basics of Computer as well as fundamentals of other streams like Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Electrical and Textile. The classes proved to be beneficial for the new students and fill up any gaps and shortcomings that generally come across the new learners.

7 UDAAN- FLIGHT TO SUCCESS
Department organized an orientation programme i.e UDAAN- FLIGHT TO SUCCESS for the newly admitted B.Tech students at the institute premises on 3- 4 August The major objective of the programme was to make students aware of the academic aspects of the course, the rules and regulations of the Institute and Code of Conduct. Students were shown a short movie to make them aware of the importance of JAI JAWAN, JAI KISAN, JAI VIGYAN. Mr Surya, a motivational speaker conducted sessions to make students aware about the changes which are going to occur after entering college life. Through team leading games and other activities he guided students how to develop good leadership qualities, stress bearing capacity, innovative ideas, self-confidence and turning to be a successful professional. The program created a significant impact on the students of the college and motivated them to achieve great heights.

13 Visit to Nainital The department organized a 3 day trip to Nanital for the new entrants in the month of August. There were almost 150 students who went for the trip in two different groups which were scheduled to visit Nanital from 8th-12th August and 15th-18th August 2016. The students enjoyed different outdoor activities like trekking, rock climbing and boating. They had a comfortable stay at Ayaar Jungle Camp and did some sightseeing at Naini Lake, and Tiffin Top point. The students were accompanied by faculty members: Dr Hawa Singh, Dr Jugminder, Mr Dinesh, Mr Nitin Ms Vinod, Ms Bharti and Ms Himani
