2. What is informative writing?
AKA Explanatory/Expository Writing
In an informative essay, you can do any of the following:
--Explain how something works (step-by-step)
--Tell why something happened (cause and effect)
--show how two or more things are alike or different (compare and contrast)
--Point out a problem and offer a solution
--Define what something is (extended definition)

4. How will this item appear on the EOc?
If you get an informative/expository essay topic, it will happen on April 24 (the first day of testing)
You will have TWO passages to read
Next, you will have 3-6 questions about the passages
Then, you will have 1 short constructed response item
Finally, you will have your essay

5. Informative/Expository Essay tips
Read the writing prompt at least 3 times before you begin writing
Read each passage carefully
Use your highlighting tool to mark evidence that you could use
Plan your essay on your scratch paper
Reread the writing prompt again while planning
Be sure to use TEXTUAL EVIDENCE/QUOTES from BOTH passages
Cite your quotes with the NAME of the PASSAGE
