IDEA LAPTOP PROGRAM Your Role and Responsibility as a Parent of a IDEA Student

THE LAPTOP PRIVILEGE Technology is a privilege provided by IDEA Teacher/ student digital access pushes students to forefront in college preparation All students will utilize one of these laptops. Our laptops are connected to DISD EAD with internet connectivity and access to district drives that personal devices do not have

DALLAS ISD PROVIDES OUR LAPTOPS Dallas ISD Investment : $560,000 Dell Latitude 7350 cost: $1199.00 Cycle of laptops: Varies from 3 to 5 years Your child will keep his/her laptop for several years Note: We will collect the laptops at the end of the school year. If the laptop is needed by the student during the summer for academic purposes, it can be arranged through the cluster office at the principal’s discretion.

ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY Governs the use of any DISD owned computer Contract between student and DISD Designed for student safety, protection of DISD property All teachers and staff abide by same policy Students who violate the policy will temporarily lose their laptop privilege. Repeat violations may result in permanent loss of laptop privileges.

COMMON ACCEPTABLE USE VIOLATIONS Changing settings (including family or friends) Using online software to access blocked sites Deleting history Illegal downloads: music, videos, games Chatting & Instant messaging Cyber-bullying and sexting Using it as a personal laptop

DISD TRACKING AND MONITORING DISD monitors the use of laptops, including: Data management (music & videos) Software Installations Location tracker for recovery of lost/stolen devices DISD does not monitor web cameras DISD & IDEA reserve the right to inspect the laptops for: Physical damage Check internet history, software installations, etc.

PARENT FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY LAPTOP DAMAGE Except for malfunctions (manufacturer’s liability), parents may be responsible for paying for repairs to laptops. COSTS Lost/Stolen Laptop cost $1199* Broken LCD Repair Cost $130.00 Keyboard Repair Cost $75.00 Missing Keys Cost $75.00 Motherboard Replacement Cost $400.00 Lost/Stolen Charger $75 Lost/Damaged Carry Bag $30 *Optional: Include laptop in your Homeowner’s or Rental Insurance Policy

LAPTOP SERVICE PROCEDURES When your issued laptop needs to be serviced you are to: 1.Complete the Laptop Service Document located in the Technology Office. 2.Turn in your laptop before school, during lunch, or after school with completed document to Mr. Sanchez. 3.Pick up your serviced laptop within 48 hours

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR LAPTOP IS STOLEN 1. File a report within 24 hours in the city where the laptop was stolen. Note: Police will request both the serial # and DISD decal number of the stolen laptop. 2. File a DISD PD Stolen Items Report within 24 hours of returning to school. 3. Bring copies of both reports to school within 48 hours.

MAINTAINING FILES/STORAGE SPACE Files should not be saved directly to the laptop. All files that are created and saved on the laptop must be in the cloud. Students have access to both OneDrive and Google Docs. Students also have option of storing on a thumb drive.

LAPTOP DISTRIBUTION Details on when laptops will be distributed will be shared after the start of school. To be eligible to receive a laptop: Parent and student must sign and submit all 5 required forms Attend an orientation session
