Figure 1 Schematic representation of the effect of loss of BRCA1 on the characteristics of the inactive X chromosome. The inactive X chromosome is visible as the Barr body and associated with XIST RNA. Other features of the inactive X include modification of histone H3 by methylation on lysine 9 (H3mK9) and incorporation of the variant histone mH2A1.
