Interesting verbs create clear imagery and powerful action. A verb shows action, being, or state of being. Examples: action words, being verbs (am, is, are, was, were), helping verbs (have, has, had) Highlight ALL of the verbs in the section you are revising. Shapes, colors, names of places, and things familiar create instant imagery. Nouns are persons, places, things, or ideas. Examples: boy, girl, chair, United States, ocean, love, freedom, peace Choose a different color of highlighter than the one you used in previous sections. Highlight ALL the nouns in the section you are revising. Do not highlight pronouns. Adjectives shade or contrast your meaning for extra definition. Too many adjectives dilute the meaning, stop imagination and bore the listener. Adjectives describe nouns and pronouns. Examples: small, enormous, blue, wonderful, beautiful, amazing, precious, round, tasty, chewy, crunchy, dry, pulpy, sweet, sour, hot, cold Choose a different color of highlighter than the one you used in previous sections. Highlight ALL the adjectives in the section you are revising. Exaggerate the ordinary surroundings to make them exciting. Underline and Bold unexpected images and exaggerations. What color are your verbs? Look for that color in your document. Is there a lot of that color? There should be. What color are your nouns? Is there a lot of that color? What color are your adjectives? There should be less of that color than your verbs and nouns. Go back and revise all of your other sections now.
