A base word is a word to which other word parts, such as prefixes and suffixes, can be added to form new words. Base words have there own meanings and can stand alone as words. There are no poisonous snakes in Manitoba. Base Word : poison Suffix: ous Meaning: having poison He drank the soda noisily. Base Word: Noise Suffix: ly Meaning: in a way that made noise. Reread the left column of dialogue on page 251. Why did Mark have to return the snake to the store?

12 Comprehension: Repetition
Repetition is saying or doing something over and over, it is a literary device that is often used in poetry and sometimes prose. Repetition of words can emphasize certain feelings. Authors may use repetition to highlight their purpose or main idea.

13 Comprehension: Making Inferences
Certain words used by a character , show their true feelings. … “I truly, genuinely apologize but I still don’t know how I was suppose to find out what kind of snake I had.” Clue: the words but and still help you know what the character truly felt.

14 Text Feature: Electronic Encyclopedia
Electronic encyclopedias include articles, diagrams, and photographs on many topics. They contain information and facts about a particular subject. Encyclopedia's also contain toolbars at the top of the screen. These allow you to get more specific information. Online Encyclopedia Britannica

15 Reflection Day 1 Explain how making inferences is important to Mark and Jean’s study method. Use two details to support your answer.
