Kindergarten Welcome Letter
Course Description: Kindergarten is your child’s first step in his or her education. We explore all subject areas to include Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies as well as social and fine motor skills.
Instructional Philosophy: The children are expected to work in whole groups, small groups, pairs, and independently at tables or on the carpet. We expect the students to listen to and share ideas with each other. A wide variety of instructional strategies will be used.
Major Course Goals: By the end of the year, students will be expected to identify all letters of the alphabet, recognize all letter sounds, read sight words, and demonstrate comprehension skills. They will also be expected to identify numbers up to 20, count to 120, identify shapes, and demonstrate knowledge of measuring skills.

Course Assessment Plan: Recently, our grading policy has changed due to board recommendations. K-3rd grade receive standards-based ratings. These ratings range from These rating will inform you how accurate your child is in meeting grade level standards. The chart below serves as an example of what each score means. For this chart, the “standard” would be riding a bike. Each rating tells where the child is in relation to mastering the standard.
Classroom Expectations:
Keep hands and feet to self.
Listen when the teacher is talking.
Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.
Follow directions quickly.
Be respectful of others and ourselves.

*4 boxes of Crayola crayons *2 packs of pencils *Color pencils/markers
*12 count glue sticks *3 pack pink erasers *Dry Erase Markers
*2 composition notebooks *pack of copy paper *2 bottles of hand sanitizer
*Clorox or baby wipes *Full set of change of clothes to be kept at school (In case of accidents)
*Supplies will be used in the classroom as needed so we ask that you not label them. Thank you for understanding!
Homework Policy: Students will be given a homework calendar every month. Students are expected to complete homework every night and return it to school in their folders.
Extra Help: EIP services and speech will be available to students who qualify.
