Speed is the distance traveled divided by the time it took to go that distance
Normally, objects do not travel at a constant speed
Average Speed - total distance
total time

I travel 240 miles in 8 hours. What is my average speed?
Total distance/total time
30 miles/hour

Example
Farmer Jones drives 6 miles down a straight road. She turns around and drives 4 miles back. What was her average speed for this trip if it took 1 hour?

7. The total distance traveled by Farmer Jones is 10 miles
The total distance traveled by Farmer Jones is 10 miles. Therefore her average speed is 10 mi/hr.

8. Velocity Velocity is the speed of an object in a particular direction
Imagine two birds leave the same tree at the same time. The both fly at 10km/hr for 5 minutes. Why don’t they end up at the same place?

9. Velocity
Velocity appears to be very similar to speed, however, when describing the velocity of an object you need to provide a magnitude and a direction
Magnitude – the speed of the object
Direction – the direction the object is moving

10. Velocity Example A bus is travelling 35miles/hr heading west
Speed = 35miles/hr
Velocity = 35 miles/hr west
