This week in Ms. Hill’s Class Week of Dec 1-5, 2014 News from Ms. Hill
We Have Learned in Reading… How to identify and put text features into navigational, text print, electronic navigation, and visual categories. How to create text features for a piece of writing. How to make predictions about stories as we are reading based on the words and pictures of the story and our personal experiences. We Have Learned in Writing… To edit and revise our writing with the help of a partner. To focus in on a small moment and write about it in our notebooks. We Have Learned in Math… To make change by counting up to $5.00. To compare two different amounts of coins and bills. To make decisions about how much we can spend using a list of priced items and given a certain amount of money to use. To begin to comprehend multiplication using arrays and repeated addition strategies. We Have Learned in Social Studies… The three types of columns created and used by the Ancient Greeks; the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian, and distinguishing features of each. About the Parthenon and it’s importance to our world history. The type of government system developed by the Ancient Greeks, Democracy, and how it influenced our government system in The United States today. To compare and contrast the government of Ancient Greece with the current government of The United States. Important Events Homework - Please make sure you are checking your child’s agenda each night for homework assignments and upcoming assessments. Students have assigned homework each night, including the three weekly word study activities and benefit from having a parent check for completion. International Night– Please join us on Tuesday, December 16th from 6:30-8pm for International Night. It will be an exciting and educational night for all as we showcase students’ work and projects based on the many cultures and countries of our world. I hope to see you there! News from Ms. Hill SUPPLIES – We are in need of the following classroom supplies: tissues, glue sticks, LARGE COLORED AND WHITE CONSTRUCTION PAPER, Elmer’s liquid glue, prizes for the treasure box (small toys, pencils, erasers…).
