2 Why do we need this? Knowing the parts of a non fiction book, dictionary, or other research source will help you find information faster and more efficiently. It will save you time and effort especially when it comes to writing your bibliography.

5 Table of Contents Lists the chapters and page numbers

6 Glossary Dictionary format Includes new or unfamiliar words
Listed in alphabetical order Meanings of important words

7 Index An index is in the back of some books. It is set up like a dictionary. The index tells what page something can be found on in the book.

8 BIBLIOGRAPHY Lists all references used by the author in writing the book. Alphabetical list by last name of author Different styles: most used is the MLA style (Cherry Creek Schools) APA at the University level.

9 ABC Order To use a dictionary, you must know how ABC order works.
Words in the dictionary are arranged in ABC order! All of the “a” words are first, then the “b” words, next the “c” words…..Get it!

10 Guide Words Guide words are words at the top of a dictionary page that tell you what the first and last word on that page are. The words on the page will be between the guide words in ABC order. Guide words are there to help you find the word you are looking for faster!
