Grammar Warm-up: Em Dash Definition: An em dash may be used to denote a break in a sentence or to set off parenthetical statements; use it when you want to clarify a topic or interrupt the main idea in a text (Wikipedia) Examples: “When it hit three hundred, one of Flom’s partners—Morris Kramer—came to him and said that he felt guilty” (Gladwell 118). “All of a sudden, things that the old-line law firms didn’t want to do—hostile takeovers and litigation—were the things that every law firm wanted to do” (Gladwell 128). Write-alike: Write three sentences that all have em dashs. Your topic is Homecoming.
