Farmers in Tripura

Introduction This project has been made on the condition of the farmers of the locality and their way of farming. In tripura most of the area is hilly but stiil farming is done upto the extreme level of the area. The production is also good but the method of production is not good , because still there is unscientific and old methods of farming are existing because the farmers are mostly educated and they don’t have much knowledge about the modern agriculture. so, by the help of this project we are trying to motivate the rural uneducated farmers about the modern farming techniques and about the modern technology and stand in front of the farmers t help them in overcoming those problems.

What is agriculture Agriculture is the production, processing, marketing, and use of foods, fibers and byproducts from plant crops and animals.[1] Agriculture was the key development that led to the rise of human civilization, with the husbandry of domesticated animals and plants (i.e. crops) creating food surpluses that enabled the development of more densely populated and stratified societies. The study of agriculture is known as agricultural science. Agriculture is also observed in certain species of ant and termite

Types of agriculture There one many types of Agriculture. 1) Shifting Cultivation 2) Intensive Pastoral Farming 3) Subsistence Cultivation 4) Commercial Cultivation 5) Mixed crop Cultivation 6) Dairy Farming 7) Dry Farming 8) Intensive Arable Farming 9) Market Gardening (Fruit and salad vegetables). 10) Silk Farming 11) Plantation or Tree Farming 12) Extensive Pastoral Farming (eg Hill Sheep Farming)

Why the farmers of Tripura are still lagging behind
PROBLEM Use of old and outdated tools of farming. Lack of knowledge about modern and scientific farming. Unscientific farming. Use of same kind of seeds for a long period of time. Think of personal food only not for large scale production.

The main difference

What should be done Govt. policies to motivate the farmers to use the HYV variety of seeds and bring the scientific tools in contact of the farmers so that they can afford it and can increase their productivity but decrease the labor cost. Govt. should give loans to the farmers so that they can afford the costly and useful scientific tools of farming. Govt. should give actual value to the farm products so that they can get motivated to cultivate for selling also.

Students participation

Student’s work On the first day we went to many villges of the district. And made a survey and found the following data:

The survey compilation

Conclusion of data The data itself shows that the main cause behind the backwardness of the farmers of tripura is that they use plough and bull about 20th time more than that of power tillers. Only a small proportion uses the machine driven irrigation system but most of the peoples are using the normal irrigation system. A small proportion uses the HYV seeds and chemical fertilisers but about 90% uses the traditional old variety of seeds. Only a small proportion cultivate for selling purpose whereas others cultivate for themselves only.
