The best way to overcome communication apprehension is to RESEARCH, PLAN and PRACTICE!!!
1. Choose a topic that interests you. 2. Know your goal: to persuade, inform, or entertain. 3. Your topic can be summarized by a single clear thesis statement. 4. Know your audience.

Thesis Statement v. Purpose Statement
Thesis statement: what your speech is about; the main idea. Purpose statement: what you want your speech to accomplish (what you want the audience to walk away with from your speech

Research: Sources 1. Personal Knowledge 2. Interviews 3. Media (books, magazines, on- line, etc. Often done in a library. 4. Original research (such as surveys

Research: Evidence 1. Statistics 2. Examples 3. Comparisons: similes (direct) and analogies (indirect) 4. Quotations: credibility comes from appropriate identification 5. Visual Aids: Simple and Large
