How did the plague affect the people during the Middle Ages?
killed many people
affected people in Europe, North Africa, Western Asia
In Europe at least one third of the population of people died
didn’t find a cure

3. Spread Of The Disease… What were the symptoms of this disease?
Bublonic Plague happened in the 1300 in Western Eurasia
chills, fever, vomiting
developed dark spots on the skin and it got swollen glands
this was a deadly disease
person would die within a few days
later known as the Black Death

What were the different impacts of the disease?
Christians and Muslims thought differently about the plague
Christians saw it as punishment for the sin
Muslims saw it as examining their faith to god
plague killed million people by 1400s

What were the name of some of the diseases and how did they harm you?
Leprosy- damages Peripheral nerves, skin, eyes,
mucous membrane of the nose
not very contagious
Small Pox- caused by variol virus
Was 1st diseases to be eradicated
Dysentery- caused stomach pain & diarrhea
vomiting and fever
bacteria would enter the food or water

What was the number of people that died because of these diseases?
Black Death million people
Small Pox- 30,000 people died per year
Leprosy- more than one billion
Ergotism- 40% of people died
Typhoid Fever % of people died

How was the disease very harmful to the people?
Spread by fleas that carried rats or different tiny rodents
Very bad swelling
swelling would be on the armpits, lags, neck, groin
swelling would turn red
then it would turn purple or black
high fever, vomiting, muscular pain
lung bleeding
mental disorientation
die very quickly
Lived to at least 2-4 days

What other disease were there during the Middle Ages?
Ergotism- fungal infection of grain, rye
causes anxiety, sensation of being bitten or burned, reddening, blisters in skin, blackening, itching
Influenza- viral infection of upper respiratory
Spread by inflammation
After 1-2 days you’ll start getting chills, fever, headache, weakness, eye pain, mental confusion
Malaria- diseases caused by mosquitoes
chills, fever to 140 degrees, bad headache
Measles- runny nose, dry cough, 105 degrees fever, aching
Light red spots appear in the mouth
