irrelevant – (adj.) not relating to the matter at hand; not important I buried myself in my own completely irrelevant thoughts. perfunctory – (adj.) performed as a routine duty without interest, care, or enthusiasm Their owner was not just going through the perfunctory duties of basic politeness. speculation – (noun) a conclusion or opinion reached by thinking about it A rising murmur of puzzled speculation followed us out into the hall. Resolutely – (adv.) firm in purpose or belief; determined. Resolutely, he led me upstairs. scowled – (verb) to contract the brows in a displeased, or angry manner; frown Einstein shook his head and scowled, as though I had introduced an irrelevance. approximation – (noun) an action that is increasingly moving towards being accurate. I managed to reproduce an approximation of the sounds the famous tenor had made. attain – (verb) to achieve or accomplish a task or goal His head went back as if to help me attain what seemed unattainable. epitaph – (noun) a poem or saying engraved on a tomb or gravestone about the person buried at that site. Einstein smiled, put his arm across my shoulder, and uttered ten words that are his epitaph.
