How Do I Find the Claim? Look to the beginning and the end
Note the main idea of each paragraph Look for differences in paragraphs Do they support one another? Build off each other? Is there an outlier? Counter-claim?

Detail versus Claim Claims are typically opinions—they do not stand well alone Details are typically fact-based or considered to be “truth” Logos: logic or reason, such as facts or data Ethos: authority, such as an expert’s opinion or a leader’s word Pathos: emotion, an appeal to human feelings Details prove claims
