De Anza College 2007 Community College Survey of Student Engagement Highlights Presented to the College Council February 14, 2008 Prepared by Elena Litvinova Institutional Research and Planning, De Anza College

2 Survey Sample The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) was administered in class during the Spring 2007 quarter. Random sample of 57 class sections (sample selection was done by CCSSE staff). Resulted in 1,172 of 2,057 valid survey responses from 48 sections, yielding a response rate of 57%. CCSSE is the Community College Survey of Student Engagement Administered at De Anza for the 1st time in Spring '07 As part of the SSPIRE Grant Committed to doing it again in '09 1172 of 2057 (57%) students responded. 2007 CCSSE Highlights,

The survey was administered to 57 class sections. 48 sections responded. This is a breakdown of the class sections that took the survey. Student headcount of GE compared to non-GE courses is considerably close at 57% for student in GE Courses. -Gender -Race/Ethnicity -Age Group -Enrollment status ~ International Students: there's a difference of definition between the IPEDS and students identifying themselves as foreign national. CCSSE staff said that this usually happens on larger campuses such as ours. ~ 59% age which is more than IPEDS's 43% Consistent with 71% full time students. 10 Benchmark Report This report highlights sections for which the De Anza College results score at least 0.2 below or above the mean of the 2007 CCSSE Cohort (525 colleges participating in 2005, 2006, or 2007). “Benchmarks” are determined by clusters of questions pertaining to a survey emphasis. Clusters of questions which we will look at specifically a bit later.
