Answer the following question in your I.N. 12: What is your favorite restaurant? Describe one item on the menu that you like in particular. Use as much description as you can.

Using the top part of your brainstorm worksheet: What characteristics make up a restaurant menu? What kinds of pictures, words, or format? What types of things make up a creative and attractive menu? How does the menu make you want to eat the food? What associations do you have with menus? List as many ideas as you can gather on the top.

As you rotate with your group, create a master list of menu characteristics from the example menus you read. Add these characteristics to the bottom part of your brainstorm worksheet. We will combine these ideas to create our own class list of what every menu has. HOMEWORK: You will be asked to use one family recipe or a favorite recipe of your own in your menu. We will work in groups to create menus. Write all of your homework ideas in your I.N. page 12.

Language Arts: Tuesday 2-5
With your group, pass around the Group Menu Brainstorm paper. Everyone must add a particular menu item that they have decided to include on the menu. Discuss your group’s restaurant style/type. Discuss possible names for your restaurant.

Turn in your I.N. at the front of the room in the appropriate class pile. Take out your planning worksheet that should be completed. Using a piece of notebook paper, begin writing a description of your menu item. Title the paper with the name of your menu item. We will rotate in our groups to edit and improve the descriptions once everyone is finished, so write neatly!

View the Oregano’s menu to discuss adjectives As we rotate our group’s menu item descriptions, think of at least three additions you can make to the item to make it more interesting and descriptive to read. HOMEWORK: Vocabulary Packet DUE TOMORROW

Have your vocabulary packet completed and out on your desk. Number off in your group 1-6. Practice quizzing each other on definitions. We will have a class competition over the words in 4 minutes.

As a group, discuss what style of a menu you want: Everyone will create their own page that will be stapled together. Decided if you want to split it up by types of food, appetizers, main course, kids menu, or dessert. Give each person in your group a section of the menu based on their item. When you decide, have one person from your group come and get supplies to start working. HOMEWORK: Vocabulary Test Tomorrow!!!! MENU DUE TUESDAY!

Language Arts: Friday 2-8
You have two minutes to study for the Vocabulary Test today. When you finish, take an Italian Menu from THE HUB. Check off two of the menu items you will complete before the end of class. When you finish, staple your papers together with your name on it, and turn it in at THE HUB. READ SILENTLY (If you have time) DON’T FORGET... MENUS ARE DUE TUESDAY!
