Independent Clauses Also known as a simple sentence
They make sense on their own Has a subject and a predicate

II. Dependent Clauses Have a subject and a predicate
BUT do not express a complete thought Do not make sense on their own Need to be joined with an independent clause to make sense Often, will begin with a SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTION Sometimes they are also called SUBORDINATE clauses

HINT!!!! If a sentence starts with a dependent clause, it will be separated from the independent clause with a comma.
