Place bedpan underneath Raise patient to a sitting position Wait Roll patient back onto their side Carefully remove bedpan to avoid spills

4 Problems with the current system
Time Intensive Manpower Intensive Risk of Infection

5 Time Intensive Requires patient to wait for assistance
Procedure takes longer with patients who are injured Hospital staff availability

6 Manpower Intensive Requires hospital staff at every incident
Hospital staff must be present throughout procedure Bedpans need specialized cleaning care Bedpans must be sterilized before each use

7 Potential Risks for Infection
Inadequate cleaning and sterilization Potential contact with waste material for hospital staff Potential contact with waste material for patients Possibility for spills to occur during process

8 What it is, and how it works.
Form and Function What it is, and how it works.

9 Form Mechanized hospital bed Motor controlled access Alert system
Saftey controls triggered by sensor input Input panel for staff use

10 Software Controls for:
Goals: Software Controls for: Patient driven initiation Logic design and timing control Safety control structure and override Hospital staff notification settings Staff input commands to assist in care

11 Patient Driven Input can be modified to fit requirements
Ruduces patient wait time Does not require hospital staff to be availible at the beginning

12 Logic and Timing Determination for when each action should be taken and in what order Allows for data collection for staff use

13 Safety Motor resistance Excessive idle time
Patient controlled stop function

14 Notification Automatically on Emergency Events Staff can choose to
be notified imediately on system start Options for other further notification will be stored as variables

15 Staff options Notification settings Data Collection Filtration option
Hold option
