Headship On Display In Gods Assembly
2
A Cultural Teaching or A Scriptural Truth? 2/28
3
Where Head Coverings are NOT taught: Creation Headship (OT) Family Headship (OT) Head of the Church (Col) Head of Creation (Heb, Rom) Headship of the Husband (Eph) 3/28

The Spirit of God has placed this truth, in the section of this epistle, reserved for church practices. 1 Corinthians 11-14 4/28

2 Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. 3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. 6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 1 Corinthians 11:2-7 (NKJV) 5/28
6
8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. 12 For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God. 1 Corinthians 11:8-12 (NKJV) 6/28
7
13 Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering. 16 But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God. 1 Corinthians 11:13-16 (NKJV) 7/28

1 Corinthians 11:3 The head of every man is Christ (No equality) The head of every woman is man (Equality, with subjection) The head of Christ is God (Equality, with subjection) 8/28
9
The symbolic or spiritual head shows headship The physical head is obviously part of the human body 9/28
10
The spiritual head (man) of the woman is covered and is symbolically out of sight when the woman covers her physical head. John Dennison, truthandtidings.com, Feb 2008 10/28
11
The man leaves his head uncovered, symbolizing that his spiritual head (Christ) is on display in the assembly. John Dennison, truthandtidings.com, Feb 2008 11/28
12
The symbolism is not to stress that man is the head of the woman, but that Christ is the head of the man. That headship is on display in the local assembly. John Dennison, truthandtidings.com, Feb 2008 12/28
13
Jesus Christ on display Womans head is covered, her head (man) is covered Mans head is uncovered, his head (Christ) is on display 13/28
14
The uncovered head of the man is teaching that Christ is the image and glory of God, and that Christ alone is uncovered or revealed in his glory when the assembly meets. 14/28
15
No natural man should be on display in the assembly, regardless of his spiritual gift or natural ability. 15/28
16
And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. Colossians 1:18 (ESV) I have written something to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority. 3 John 9 (ESV) 16/28
17
The covered head of the woman and the uncovered head of the man causes the angels to look on with great interest. Therefore, the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 1 Corinthians 11:10 (NAS) 17/28
18
Verses 5, 6, 7 and 13 talk about a covering or veil (2619 katakalupto ) that is on top of her head. 18/28
19
In verse 15, an entirely different word is used to describe her long hair (4018 peribolaion), which means a covering that is down around her head. 19/28
20
The womans long hair is a sign of her subjection to the man in Gods order of creation (v. 7-9) 20/28
21
Her long hair was given to her by nature and helps to distinguish her as a female. Her femininity is her glory. 21/28
22
Long hair on a man and short hair on a woman blurs the distinctiveness of the genders as they were created by God. 22/28
23
How long is long? Some women cant grow their hair very long. 23/28
24
It is very clear from the passage that there should be a very obvious difference between a mans hair and a womans hair. 24/28
