Some statistics for the City of Stockholm
4 % of the citizens: on welfare (lowest share since 1970) Cost in 2009: about Euros 50 % of adults on social welfare: due to unemployment Labour market in Stockholm: Service sector and knowledge intensive business - unemployed 2009, years old: 3,4 % (3,2 % women and 3,6 % men). Foreign born 2009: 22% On sick-leave 2008: 6,7 % 4 % are depending on welfare. In 2009 this cost the city about 97 million Euros. Out of the total number of people on welfare, 50 % are so due to unemployment.

Stockholm has the best labour market in the country, but… ... big differences within the city - segregation problems District Rinkeby: employment rate 47 % (2007) 77 % generally in the city.

Role of the city within the field of employment in Sweden
Generally: municipal self-governance with a lot of independence and taxation right. Municipalities have no formal mission and limited responsibility for labour market policy. Municipalities have a big interest in well-functioning local labour markets in order to limit social costs/problems. Since the 1990s, municipalities - an increasingly active role in labour market policy for social assistance recipients. and eliminate the risk of people moving to find work elsewhere
