Investigation 2 Polygonal Prisms

Homework Book 2.1 1, , ,14,31 A 2, 10, 13, 14, 30 B 2, 11, 13, 30, 31 IXL 7th Grade U6 and U 10 up to 70 points

Vocab Right Prism bases are congruent polygons and all faces are rectangles Regular Prism bases are regular prisms Net 2D blueprint for a 3D figure Cross Section When you cut a 3d figure the 2D shape that is made Pyramid 1 polygon base, faces are triangles that meet at a point

Invest 2.1 Folding Paper: Surface Area and Volume of Prisms
: As you change the dimensions of a rectangular prism by a certain scale factor, how do the surface area and volume of the prism change?

Notes Name of the base is the name of the prism Surface Area of Prisms Find the area of the base, find the area of the faces, add them together, some of the faces may be the same shape, both bases should be the same Make some prisms and find the area

Example Pg28 read and make the 4 prisms Use entire sheet of paper to fold and make prisms Work through problem 2.1

Homework You should be able to have the following problems finished Problem 2

Invest 2.2 Packing a Prism: Calculating Volume of Prisms
What general strategy can be used to find the volume of any preism- triangular, rectangular, pentagonal, and so on?

Notes Volume of Prisms Find area of base times the height of the prism Think of how many bases fit inside the figure Using layers of identical cubes like we have done if previous units

Example Video Pg 31 problem 2.2

Homework You should be able to have the following problems finished Problem 10 and 11

Invest 2.3 Slicing Prisms and Pyramids
What surface shapes and three-dimensional figures can be created by slicing a rectangular prism in various directions?

Notes Cross Section What 2D shape is formed when you cut the figure Think of if you make it into a stamp what shape would you see You don’t always see all the faces, sides, edges of the figure but you know they are there

Example Video Pg 33 Problem 2.3
