WG5: Waste
2
SWDSs (CH4) - AD Key sources in all (?) MS
Amounts disposed:new member states - good quality data missing; old member states - accurate data available for years Composition: more uncertain in all MSs, especially changes in time often not known and probably not taken into account in the uncertainty estimates Landfill gas recovery - uncertainties probably not always taken into account in the overall uncertainty (importance is increasing)
3
SWDS - parameters, method
Many parameters in FOD - all uncertainties may not be addressed method: FOD - many parameters - correlations between activity data and parameters may not always be known (should harmonise between MSs?) guidance in GPG not enough to make the estimation (especially how to address uncertainties in the k-value) sharing experience from MSs would be helpful
4
Wastewater treatment (CH4 and N2O)
Not a key source in most MSs Uncertainty estimates based on expert judgement and/or IPCC defaults Minor source - no additional guidance needed
5
Waste Incineration Most waste burned for energy in MS - therefore mainly an Energy sector issue fossil carbon content of waste burned main source of uncertainty (linked to composition of waste) - waste policies may promote incineration but do not consider uncertainties non-CO2 - more uncertain - less important as emissions smaller (especially CH4 very small)
