1 Model United Nations 繞著地球跑
Teacher: Teacher Marco Goals: Some of you may have already attended my class last semester where we did a small scale Model UN: Selling Junk Food in Schools The Zombie Pandemic Climate Change The Situation in North Korea

2 Many of you will attend my class this semester, where you will get a chance to do some small scale Model United Nations work. The purpose of this Friday Night class is to delve deeper than those classes. If you liked what we did before, and would enjoy doing more of the same, only in more detail, that’s what this class will hopefully be.

3 Over the course of 16-20 classes in the semester, I hope to:
Introduce the United Nations, its history, its purpose, its current activities, etc. through short videos Introduce the Model United Nations activity, and prepare you for taking part in such an activity in the future in Taiwan or elsewhere. Not give you much homework, if none at all. Give you a chance to use computers in class to research backgrounds on countries. Move through one (or possibly 2) entire cycles, or topics, of a Model UN.

4 A cycle contains: A topic that will be determined before the first class. Topics in the past have included Climate Change and the situation in North Korea. They may also include Child Marriage, Extreme Poverty, Globalization, Human Rights, Nuclear Energy, Youth Employment, etc. An assigned country and partner(s). You will research about that country, and act as that country’s representative, and speak about that country. Learning the Model UN Protocol – how to speak, how to act, etc.

5 A cycle also contains: A chance to debate your points of view, and listen to others debate their points Working together in coalitions to form shared approaches to problems Creating a final proposal with all your classmates contributing.

6 Prerequisites: No more than 24 students to a class A willingness to work only in English A curiosity to delve into subject matter, and think more deeply than just surface level An eagerness to speak aloud to classmates
