Figure 1 Rejuvenation hormones and mechanism of action. Exogenous testosterone and anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) negatively affect the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) block the negative feedback of estrogen on the HPG axis. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) stimulates Leydig cells. Aromatase inhibitors prevent the conversion of testosterone to estrogen.
