4/24/2019 Business Overview Segment Results (’05) Operating Summary Overall Income: $61.7bn Profit: $21bn YOY Growth: 11% Pre-Tax profits up 11% due to excellent performance in PFS (17%) led by core operations in UK, North America and Hong Kong. However, due to increasing spend in the Investment Banking operation and increasing bad debts, HSBC’s cost efficiency ration dropped to 51.2% vs 51.6% in Total Assets grew by 17% or $222bn to $1, 502bn. Personal Financial Services (PFS) Income: $33.7bn Profit: $9.9bn YOY growth: 17% Over 100 million customers worldwide, including 60m ‘non-banked’ people in UK, US and Canada. 183 million transactions on-line, a 17% increase over HSBC completed its acquisition of Metris which makes it the 5th largest issuer of Visa and MasterCard. Commercial Banking (CB) Income: $9.8bn Profit: $4.9bn YOY growth: 22% Customer growth of 10% to 2.5 million representing better competitive positioning and significant expansion in UK and Hong Kong. Corporate, Investment Banking & Markets (CIBM) Income: $11.5bn Profit: $5.2bn YOY growth: -2.4% Operating expenses increased 18% as costs peaked around investment in CIBM development. 3,600 additional employees recruited. Considerable investment was also made in distributed platforms to support the new business. Private Banking (PB) Income: $2.4bn Profit: $912m YOY growth: 31% Use of group shared service increased Operating efficiency (62%).
