Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death with graft function after kidney transplant. First-time kidney-only transplant recipients age 18 years and older who underwent transplant in 1997 to 2006 and died with a functioning graft (N = 14,169). Cause of death obtained from Organ Procurement and Transplant Network when available, otherwise from End-Stage Renal Disease Death Notification form.
