Critical Group Dose Summary of critical group doses in the vicinity of the LLWR (µSv) Pathway 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 Seafood consumption 0.01 Inhalation (adults) 0.34 0.33 0.36 0.41 0.37 0.40 0.45 Milk consumption (infants) 1.85* 0.47 0.77 0.28 Direct radiation 30 31 35 32 38.6 53 Total dose to critical group 36 33 39 54 UK average annual dose from background radiation = 2200µSv . 26 April 2019 26 April 2019 6 6

7 Direct Dose How it measured: What’s changed: Plans:
Direct / external dose measurement via Thermo Luminescent Dosimeters (TLD’s) ‘permanently’ deployed at the site perimeter. Measured values used to calculate the reported ‘Direct dose’ following correction to remove background (based on fixed value gained from PHE measurements in the vicinity of the site) What’s changed: Background – Variation seen across the site Dose from imported clean material – Slate deployed on the perimeter track (at one TLD location in particular) Plans: Review background Deploy additional TLD’s to allow dose from slate to be removed. . 26 April 2019 26 April 2019 7 7

8 Waste Disposals During 2017/18, 93 containers of Low Level Waste were processed for emplacement in Vaults at LLWR. If no diversion had taken place the indicative number of containers that would have needed to be disposed was an additional ~1000* * Based on 20m3 / LLW container with no packing efficiency losses included 26 April 2019

9 Ongoing Disposals Mis-Consignment of waste remains a key risk for LLWR but no significant issues in period. Project work to help minimise the risk is being undertaken. Repository Development Programme – Tranche 1 (final capping (northern area of trenches & Vault 8)): Enabling Works – Noise Barriers, Material Movement and Import, Drainage and Stream relocation, Haul Roads Vault 8 closure - Ullage and Void fill between containers, Higher stacking Capping – Material movement and trench surcharging, Interim cap repair work, profile placement, cut off wall installation, Final cap Optimisation and design work progressing. . 26 April 2019 26 April 2019 9 9

11 Discharges are very low and significantly below historical limits
Summary Discharges are very low and significantly below historical limits Doses remain very low Increase recorded in direct radiological dose but this is linked to imported material and variation in background dose. The fact that these have a significant influence underlines the very low dose stemming from LLWR. Waste receipt continues to be managed safely and continues to reduce. Repository Development and closure activities are ongoing. 26 April 2019
