2. Purpose
To present the contents and coverage of existing software libraries with open software applications for SDMX developments and implementations
The ITDG is asked to:
take note of the presented software repositories;
comment on any issues of special interest;
propose areas and ways for cooperation with IT tools and services within the ESS.

3. Software repositories
created with specific objectives and operated to achieve specific aims;
have their own storage environment or are only collections of links to other storage resources.
Types of repositories:
access-controlled software repositories;
Open Source Software (OSS) repositories of software applications,
OSS licenses (e.g. EUPL) in principle do not provide for specific certification of the applications;
Documentation supplied up to the will and perceived needs judged by the software provider.

13. Conclusion
There are several OSS repositories allowing the sharing of software and related services within the ESS.
Eurostat has developed and maintains a number of OSS software applications which can be used by NSIs and other statistical organisations (including for SDMX).
To create favourable conditions for extensive sharing of software and related services, the ESS should embark on a more consistent promotion of storage, maintenance and usage of software through shared OSS repositories.
