Now that you have seen the videos, you may find you need to process and reflect on what you have seen and heard. Take a some time to read the Rwanda Genocide Summary Outline. Make a note of any questions you may have.

We are now going to work in groups of 4 and try to develop our understanding of the issues surrounding genocide and the role played by the international community. Use the large poster paper and markers to map out some of the key questions that you had from both the videos and the reading. Develop answers to the key questions and you MUST provide evidence to support your answers.

So, if for example, you say that of course humanitarian intervention was justified, you need to say why. Also, what international law that supports your view? What case studies can you find that show how the grounds for intervention have changed since the signing of the United Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)? You have 30 minutes to map out your response. Afterwards, we will come together and share our findings and attempt to reach a common understanding. Each member of the group should have a speaking part in their presentation.
