TB notification rate 1954 – 2001

TB profile TB registry and NTP was established in Slovenija in 1954.
Expanded tuberculosis surveillance started in 1996: Complete TB lab. reports. Data on treatment outcome. DST on all strains. Additional activities started in 2001 Contact tracing and preventive treatment of LTBI registered. RFLP analysis routinely on all strains.

Accelerated decline since new NTP
Before new NTP: in 1990 the rate was 36.0 and in – the total decline was 21.4%. After new NTP: in 1996 the rate was 28.3 and in – the total decline is 37.8%.

Possible mistakes Underreporting of nonconfirmed cases: very small, due to centralisation of necessary diagnostic. Max up to 5%. Diagnosis at death: more cases registered from death statistics than from registry statistics. Up to 50% more deaths in the old age group.
