1 MyRoad – Online Mentoring
Next Exit MyRoad – Online Mentoring A Beacon Foundation Program For Young Women

2 The MyRoad Program MyRoad
MyRoad helps young women plan for and shape their future. MyRoad provides young women with authentic connections with Online Industry Mentors. MyRoad enables young women to build their knowledge and understanding and 21st century skills for participation in the rapidly changing world of work. MyRoad

3 Purpose & Need Skills Girls Role Models Intervention Interactions
Many young women, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, lack the transferable employability skills or motivation necessary to obtain, retain and succeed in employment. Intervention Skills Girls Role Models Although girls complete high school at a slightly higher rate than boys, this does not translate to subsequent participation in further education or the labour market. Barriers include low aspirations, motivation and confidence, social and / or gender stereotyping, a lack of role models and a lack (or perceived lack) of skills. A key component of addressing this inequity is ensuring that young women who are economically disadvantaged and / or geographically isolated can gain access to high-quality interventions that support career planning and preparation. Through access to work-related learning and genuine interactions with industry role models, MyRoad will provide young women with increased self-confidence and the motivation to develop new hopes, plans and expectations for their future. Interactions

4 MyRoad Deliverable Goals
Between August 2017 and April 2018, the MyRoad program will be delivered to 2000 female participants (16-19 years of age) Diversity Delivery ICSEA <1000 Role Models The focus of the program will be on reaching out to schools with an Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) ranking of less than 1,000 to ensure the program is targeted where it is needed most. 120 to 200 industry volunteers / facilitators will be utilized during the delivery of the MyRoad program. MyRoad volunteers will come from a diverse range of occupations with cultural and gender diversity.

5 Goals and Objectives MyRoad Self - Confidence Future Expectations
Umbrella objective: Embedded across the entire program: Self-Confidence Future Expectations Self - Confidence MyRoad Curiosity Digital Communication Effective Relationships Resilience Transferable 21st Century Work Readiness Skill Development, Module key focus areas: Curiosity Digital Communication Effective Relationships Resilience Australian Curriculum linkages: Through 3 of the 7 General Capabilities: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Capability Critical and Creative Thinking Personal and Social Capability Work Studies Future Expectations

6 Program Enhancement Videos Content Timing Technology
Following MyRoad’s pilot in 2016, and the many learnings and large amount of feedback collected, the main areas for program improvement, outside of the operational aspect of the program – i.e. booking, scheduling and mentor recruitment – fell into these 4 categories: Realistic technological expectations of schools Diversity, length and utilization of videos Relevance of module content Module timings

7 Program Enhancement School Technology is a variable which we at Beacon have little control over, the program enhancements include a larger focus on school technological preparation, and consideration to the amount of and variable devices available. The utilization of videos was a popular interactive method, however the lack of diversity and the duration was a concern. MyRoad2 does include videos in each module with greater diversity and significantly reduced duration. The module content has been modified to ensure the transferable skills being developed are relevant to the 21st century workplace. The timing of the modules has been modified to ensure we have a greater lead in time in the preparation module, to allow for a clean program start. Also there are no breaks between modules.

8 Program Enhancement In addition to the enhancements directly relating to MyRoad pilot feedback, the following program enhancements have also been included: Alignment to the Australian Curriculum Increased focus on the preparedness/training of mentors to ensure the maximum program impact is gained A focus on the connectedness of teachers to the program Additional teacher resources to extend the life of the program
