Labeling your Gingerbread Man
Mouth: Where digestion first begins. Food starts in your mouth and you begin digestion by chewing. Food mixes with saliva to make a soft ball. Liver: Gives off a greenish fluid called bile that help break down fats. Stomach: The stomach is a big muscular bag that can grow and shrink. Here, chemicals are mixed with food to help break it down. Food digests in your stomach for 4 – 6 hours. Pancreas: Helps to break down food. The pancreas also produces insulin to help sugar enter the blood stream. Small intestines: Your small intestine is 4 – 7 meters long. This is where most digestion takes place. Different chemicals are released to break down fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Large intestines (colon): The primary function of the large intestine is to absorb water from the mass of food that’s been digested. This helps keep you hydrated. Rectum: Releases waste from the body.
