1 How can you use your intelligence to outwit others?
In this unit, you’ll explore people who use intelligence and creativity to solve problems or outsmart others. You’ll read a number of tales from different cultures about people who use their wits, and you’ll also read about a group of special people who used their intelligence to help the United States during wartime. How have you used your wits? Have you solved a tricky problem or a tricky puzzle? Have you ever outsmarted someone, or even been outsmarted yourself? C. Thomas, 5th Grade, Fairmont Charter School

The Catch of the Day, a Trickster Play is an example of a trickster tale, told in the format of a play. Trickster tales can be found in cultures the world over. They involve a character who attempts to trick others. Using a disguise or some other trick, the trickster usually succeeds for a while, but in the end learns his or her lesson.
