Prediction of flap necrosis with laser induced indocyanine green fluorescence in a rat model
R.E. Giunta, T. Holzbach, C. Taskov, P.S. Holm, T. Brill, R. Busch, B. Gansbacher, E. Biemer  British Journal of Plastic Surgery  Volume 58, Issue 5, Pages (July 2005) DOI: /j.bjps Copyright © 2005 The British Association of Plastic Surgeons Terms and Conditions

Figure 3 Seven days post-op: vivid and necrotic regions are marked and measured using image-J software. Surviving part, 4.62cm2; necrosis, 3.97cm2. British Journal of Plastic Surgery  , DOI: ( /j.bjps ) Copyright © 2005 The British Association of Plastic Surgeons Terms and Conditions

Figure 4 Evaluation of perfusion index and max fluorescence intensity in defined regions of interest (ROI's): red, area that will undergo necrosis; blue, surviving part; green, reference skin; yellow, constant. 6 Figure 5 Box plots: perfusion index and max fluorescence intensity calculated based on the directly post-op recorded ICG-fluoroscopy in the regions that have either survived or necrotised on day 7. Values in percentage of reference skin. British Journal of Plastic Surgery  , DOI: ( /j.bjps ) Copyright © 2005 The British Association of Plastic Surgeons Terms and Conditions

Figure 6 ROC curves: the true-positive fraction is plotted on the vertical axis and the false-positive fraction on the horizontal axis. The area under the curve relates to the method's accuracy. The point of the curve with the highest true-positive-fraction and the lowest false-positive-fraction is will present the optimal threshold. For a perfusion index of 25% we found both 100% sensitivity and specificity. A maximum fluorescence intensity of 49.4% has both a sensitivity and specificity of 95%.
