Windows XP® end of life presents some critical risks to the safe management of assets and plants operating on this platform, a situation that also affects ABB control systems Background: Microsoft stopped supporting the Windows XP® operating system on April 8, 2014 Windows XP® users do no longer receive software updates or tech support from Microsoft, while virus warnings will be provided until July 14, 2015 The Windows Server 2003 server operating system will also reach its end-of-life in July 2015 Options: ABB offers predictable lifecycle support consisting of technical support, software patches and upgrades, as well as an evolution path towards next product generations Additionally, for customers who are not yet subscribing to such programs, ABB offers special maintenance contracts for a specific time duration, as a means of upgrading and hence avoiding the Microsoft end of life issues Customers not prepared (or not ready yet) to engage on the evolution path, can be offered a “PC refresh” package to replace existing PC’s by new hardware capable of running their current Microsoft operating systems for some more time © ABB Group April 27, 2019 | Slide 12
