Legalmaster Getting Started I Tables

One quick definition A table is a collection of information that doesnt change often. For example, your list of clients is not a table, while your list of employees is. We realize this distinction is arbitrary.

Click the Tables button to elicit the list of Legalmasters tables. Most tables are optional. The two major exceptions are Employees and Rates and Statement Characteristics.

Were picking Matter Types as an example to show you how most of these tables work. You would use this table if you want to be able to categorize your cases (matters) on reports. You may want to think of it as area of law.

Some of the other Tables Narrativedescriptions Abbreviations that you may use to represent commonly used phrases in the descriptive portion of your bills Employee class A means of categorizing your timekeepers, such as Partner, Associate, Paralegal etc. Client type To categorize your clients, perhaps by type of business Departments You may assign matters and/or your employees to a department. Offices If you have more than one office, you may assign an office to each of your clients. Task, Activity and Expense codes Intended for electronic billing. If you dont know what this is for, consider yourself fortunate.

Employee Table You must enter here anyone whose time you want to bill, your attorneys, paralegals, et al. Notice there are two tables on this screen. You use the first to supply a list of your timekeepers. You use the smaller table below it to establish each persons hourly billing rates. You assign to each rate a code and youll ultimately assign that code to those matters who are to be charged the corresponding rate. For example, Jacob has a High rate of $300 and a Low rate of $280.

Summary 1. After installing Legalmaster, enter your timekeepers and their billing rates. 2. If you want to categorize your employees, client or matters, you may enter data into the appropriate tables, but you may defer this indefinitely without adding too much of a burden later.
