Traditions Inuit dancing, mythology, and storytelling have been continued throughout the years. Many people in the Arctic still speak the Inuit language, Inuktitut. The Inuit are also called Eskimos.

Traditions An Inuit adoption is a lot different than our adoption. The Inuits can either ask a pregnant women for their child, or the women could give it to someone. Clothing would be sewn by women using fur that the men brought after hunting.

Traditions The Inuit were nomads meaning that they didn’t have permanent homes because they moved with the animals. The Inuit could not farm because of the poor soil of the Arctic, and this is why they became nomads.

Traditions The Inuit would entertain themselves by juggling, play string games, drumming, and throat singing. The main source for transportation was the Inuit sleds. The sleds were pulled by bred dogs. They also had kayaks.

Religion/Geography The Inuit lived in the North of Canada near the North Pole. They lived in igloos. The Inuit lived in places where it was very cold. In the beginning it was hard for the Inuit to survive in the harsh weather but the did it.

Religion/Geography As time went on the Inuit learned how to make houses out of ice, which kept them warm. Where the Inuit lived had no vegetation so they had to hunt a lot. The Inuit adapted very fast and they were used to the large mountains.

Religion/Geography The Inuit religion was Antimism
The Inuit tribe believed that all non-living things have spirits. They believed that when things stop living they went to the spirit world.

Religion/Geography The only people powerful enough to control the spirit were the Shamans or Angakoks. The Shamans used charms and dances to control the beings of the spirit world. While the shamans were doing rituals they carved masks, mostly animals, to dance around in.

Religion/Geography To keep the spirits please they would give recommendation like if they should give gifts or sacrifices. To do the ritual the Inuit usually used side drums.

Food Sources The Inuit were mainly hunters, and relied heavily on the animals of the Arctic as their main source of food. Since very little vegetation could survive in the Arctic climate, the Inuit could not depend solely on plants for food.

Food Sources The Inuit were skilled hunters, and caught food year-round, even during the harsh winters. The Inuit were able to hunt for food year-round, so depending on the season they would hunt for different animals

Food Sources Sea mammals were usually hunted during the winter when they were out on the ice. However some sea mammals, like whales, were hunted in the open water. Summers were spent fishing and hunting caribou in the interior regions of the Arctic, and hunting seal and walrus along the coasts.
