USDA-APHIS Safeguarding Award of 2013: Farm Bill Programs, including NCPN
“The Farm Bill Management Team enhanced PPQ’s safeguarding by effectively communicating with and soliciting project suggestions from PPQ stakeholders. The team greatly refined, automated, and streamlined the innovative process that identifies, prioritizes, selects, implements, and continues Farm Bill initiatives. This refinement resulted in a renewed energy and influx of cutting-edge ideas to fix serious problems in preventing the introduction and spread of plant pests and diseases. In collaboration with states, tribes, and universities, the Farm Bill Management Team:
implemented more than 375 innovative ideas to strengthen and expand the scope of APHIS’ prevention and management activities,
extended a clean plant network to cover nearly 25 labs or programs at 20 locations in 15 states, and
promoted a greater understanding of these efforts through education and outreach.
In light of these significant results, I am pleased to present the Deputy Administrator’s Safeguarding Award for 2013 … .” Deputy Administrator for USDA-APHIS Plant protection and Quarantine
