Polygons Objective: Learn to classify polygons.
Learn to find the angle measures of a polygon. Polygons

Many of the shapes that you see in the design of buildings are Polygons.
A polygon is a geometric figure with at least three sides. Triangles and Quadrilaterals are just 2 types of polygons. A polygon is classified by the number of sides it has. A Regular Polygon is a geometric figure that has congruent sides and angles. It means that all of its sides have the same length and all of the angles have the same degrees. The square and the equilateral triangle are examples of regular polygons.

When finding the sum of the measures in an angle…
There is a formula to solve for the sum of the angles: S = (N – 2) × 180 It stands for … The sum of the angle measure = The number of sides a polygon has – 2, then you multiply it by 180. S= (5- 2) × 180 S = × 180 S = degrees Your Example: Find the sum of the measures of the angles of a hexagon.

Homework: Part 1: In 1-6, identify the number of sides in each polygon and name them.
6
Homework: Part 2: In 1- 6, find the sum of the angle measures using the formula above.
