You should now be able to produce a range of queries and reports to meet business needs of the company , which include:
identifying customers living in particular counties, so that invitations can be sent to promote local events where Cards by James are being sold.
The next event is in Cambridgeshire, with more planned in different counties
promoting new ranges of online cards to existing customers by .
The latest range will appeal particularly to female customers
identifying customers who have not yet paid, allowing reminder letters to be posted out to these customers.

3. Scenario behind tasks
identifying customers who have bought particular types of card in particular months, so that they can telephone special promotional offers to different groups of customers.
For example, they had a special promotion for Thank You cards in June 2012 and needed to telephone all customers who had bought this type of card in that month.
analysing sales data for each month, showing the different types of cards sold and the income from the cards sold.

4. Close this menu before continuing

6. Creating a query- entering criteria
Once you have selected the information that you want to show up in the query results you will have to enter the criteria you want the records to match. You will sue the criteria line to do this

8. Simple Query- songs by a particular artists
A simple query is where we are searching for records that match only one criteria like the example we just did.
If you did it correctly the design view of the query will look like this-
Example query : songs by Beyonce
Save this query as ; songs by ‘name of artist’

9. And Query- popular songs of 2011
An and query is where we are searching for records that match two or more criteria like the example shown below.
If you do correctly the design view of the query will look similar to this

10. Wildcard query- songs beginning with
A wild card query uses the * symbol to find criteria that begins, ends or contains a particular letter.
*a- means ends with a
A* - means begins with A
*a*- means it contains an A anywhere in the word
Save query as: Song name begins with ‘letter*’
( you only have to enter the letter followed by the *. The computer will add the word like automatically)

11. Advanced Queries
On the following slides are some a examples of advanced queries that some of you may want to try in your own database.
We will look at these types of queries in more detail next year when we come back to databases but feel free to have a go now.
