3 What does The Leaflet publish?
Articles: pages (2,500 – 3,000 words) Fiction: pages (3,000 – 3,500 words) Book reviews: 3-5 pages (900 – 1,200 words) Literary analysis: pages (2,000 – 3,000 words) Other submissions: Poetry, classroom ideas and suggestions, comics, web site reviews

4 Manuscript Guidelines
Double-spaced manuscripts (MS Word preferred) Include a bio (about 50 words or so) Use APA format for researched articles submissions as attachments to Dr. Mark Fabrizi at

5 The Process What happens after you submit an article?
You receive an acknowledgement of your submission I read the article, then send it to at least one reviewer You are notified of the results after reviewers have given feedback If it is published I’ll you a proof – examine it carefully! After publication, you’ll get two copies of the journal

6 Outcomes Decline Revise and re-submit
The manuscript was not right for us Revise and re-submit The core idea is strong Enact any suggested changes you agree with (or argue your case!), then re-submit it Publish with minor revisions or edits We liked it—congratulations! Enact minor revisions, or just surface edit, then send it back for publication

7 Things the reviewers look for…
Strong writing Use an academic yet collegial tone Avoid a pedantic tone or passive voice Use inclusive, gender-fair language that avoids bias Effective, proven ideas Useful to classroom teachers Interesting perspective Connection to the theme Helpful but not necessary

What are you doing in your own classroom? Literature reviews Best practices applied creatively Empirical research What works in other classrooms? Get permission to use student work: Document everything! Contextualize the research, especially any theoretical framework Emphasize your unique perspective
