1 Scientist Engagement at the 50th Lunar and
Planetary Science Conference Scientists attending the 50th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LPSC; March 18-22, 2019) engaged with early career scientists throughout the week, serving as presentation reviewers and mentors. Early Career Presenters Review Fifteen (15) undergraduate and graduate students presented their oral or poster presentations to senior scientists, receiving feedback before presenting during the conference. LPSC Insights: Get Connected, Stay Connected Fourteen (14) student/senior scientist pairs spent time together attending sessions and networking. During the lunch meet and greet, mentor and ChemCam/MSL scientist Dr. Patrick Gasda gave an overview and update of the Curiosity rover’s mission status. “It helped me streamline my presentation...as a result I was able to get more out of the poster session. I had some good interactions during the session...” – Student Presenter “The networking opportunity was very valuable to me. Usually, I am hesitant to start a conversation with someone very senior in the field...” – Student Participant Using Social Media to Share Your Science This session for about 30 planetary scientists featured techniques and suggestions for disseminating science through social media, from Dr. Edgard Rivera-Valentín, Dr. Sarah Hörst, Dr. James Tuttle Kean, and Molly Wasser. “Good to learn about balance between personal and professional activities. Very useful to hear examples.” – Participant Andy Shaner, Christine Shupla,
