Warm-Up: Beliefs Atheist: Does not believe in any gods/goddesses
Agnostic: Questions the existence of god/goddess, neither believes nor disbelieves. Why does Pi prefer atheists? Do you agree or disagree with him?

Close Reading - Purpose
Look at important passages in more detail, searching for deeper meaning. Appreciate the meaning and effect of lines in a short sample of the text. Look for “golden kernel” quotes that contain key ideas and/or themes.

Close Reading - Group Practice
Work the people at your table. You may NOT move seats. Read Ch. 10 of Life of Pi closely. Take notes as we did on Ch. 7, especially Lines that make you ask questions Lines with layers of meaning Lines that indicate a key idea or theme

Spring Break Homework Read up to the end of Ch. 22.
Complete a 1 page dialectical journal. Focus: How Pi practices religion. ALSO: Complete the World Religions Packet

Exit Ticket Based on your reading of Ch. 10, come up with another theme of the Life of Pi NOT already in the Ch. 7 notes. Write a quote from your close reading notes to support it.
