An organization in a society with the authority to make, carry out, and enforce laws. What kind of government do we have in the United States of America?

considered democratic are: Established by the people and Authority comes from the people. Protects individual rights. Promotes the common good.

7 Louisiana’s Differences
Parish v. County When Louisiana was a Spanish colony, the government established “parishes” as a geographical divisions of the Catholic Church They later formed LA’s government divisions

8 Louisiana’s Differences
Common Law v. Louisiana’s Civil Law Common law a system of law where previous decisions made in similar cases were used as guidelines. This was the British system of law.

9 Louisiana’s Differences
Louisiana’s Civil Law is based on French and Spanish civil codes. These written guidelines explain how individuals deal with each other. The judicial decisions are based on these codes.

Louisiana is the only state that still refers to the Napoleonic Code in its state law
